Nigeria: Governor Imoke’s Sick

Calabar — Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke is sick, his Press Secretary, Christian Ita disclosed yesterday.

The governor has not been seen in public for over a month now, precipitating fear that he might be ill. Ita said the governor was advised by his doctors to go for medical evaluation.

A message posted by Nakanda Iyadim, a media staff in the governor’s office yesterday evening confirmed the fear of many. He based his post on a statement signed by the chief press secretary to Imoke, which said, “Some three weeks ago,

Governor Liyel Imoke took a short break after a long, hectic and eventful year, all preparatory to the start of the busy Calabar festival season.

He used the opportunity to undergo medicals, and in the course of so doing, was advised by his doctors to undergo further medical evaluation.

Accordingly, His Excellency will be proceeding on a two-month accumulated leave with effect from December 6. In line with the provisions of the Constitution, His Excellency Efiok Cobham, the deputy governor will act in his place.”

He said further the governor has written to the state House of Assembly on the development.
