Amaechi vs Jonathan: Govs, PDP leaders set to intervene

In far away Toronto, Canada, some governors of Peoples Democratic Party, eminent party leaders including members of the National Working Committee and top officials of the Rivers State government are holed up in a major trouble shooting meeting. They are meeting on how to salvage the strained relationship between the Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi and President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting being hosted by Nigerian Ambassador to Canada, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, has in attendance the National Chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, two other members of the National Working Committee and about three PDP governors, two from the North.

Also in attendance are a high powered delegation from the Rivers State government, including the Commissioner for Information, Ibim Semenitari.

According to a source at the meeting who spoke to Saturday Mirror on phone on yesterday, the meeting was officially organised by the ambassador for the PDP members in the diaspora but was discreetly also to settle the fast degenerating intra party crisis within the hierarchy.

The meeting is expected to continue today but the source said that the Rivers State PDP crises and the Amaechi and President Jonathan rift will top the agenda of the meeting.

It would be recalled that in the last one month, the frosty relationship between the President and Amaechi has dominated the polity with their aides having a feast in the media.

Only recently, the Presidency, through the Special Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Ahmed Gulak, reacted to a recent claim by Amaechi that Jonathan was after him.
